The Artist as a Digital Archivist project started off in February of 2018, with Julija Rukanskaite (Oslo, Norway) Emily Dundas Oke (Vancouver/Kamloops, Canada) initiating an open call for video art that deals with a wide range of topics surrounding the theme of memory. Both of these young practitioners come from backgrounds that merge the humanities with contemporary art and this is their first curatorial collaboration together. The project started with informal screenings and discussions in Kamloops and Oslo. However, being very much interested in the potential of the virtual world and its artistic implications, the curators now move into the realm of the digital. In addition to temporary access to the selected video works, the WWW audience is invited to read the discussions with the artists that follow each specific section of the works included. These discussions were initiated by the curators through the creation of online platforms for featured artists to talk about their practice and comment on each others’ work.
